Virtues of Sayyiduna Umar Bin Khattab (RA)

In the virtues of Sayyiduna Umar Bin Khattab (RA) by Ibn Abi al-Dunya and the one by Al Suyuti, it is mentioned that the earth quaked during the time of Umar. He struck it with his hand and said: "What is wrong with you? What is wrong with you? If it were the Day of Judgment, it would have revealed its news." I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "On the Day of Judgment, there will not be a span or a cubit that does not speak."

Imam Ahmad mentioned from Safiyyah the same narration and with a very strong chain of transmission.

And since he struck the ground with his hand and commanded the earthquake to cease, not a single earthquake has occurred in the blessed city of Medina or in Mecca. And not a single scientific report ever recorded an earthquake there after that, and not even a narration is recorded of a single earthquake that came after that event and they stopped after that.

Shaykh Al Islam Ibn Qayyim (RA) said: "A large heart can contain great knowledge just as a large valley can hold a large amount of water; and a small heart can contain knowledge only in proportion to its capacity, just as a small valley holds a small amount of water. The valleys flow according to their size, and hearts receive guidance and knowledge according to their capacity. Just as when the floodwater mixes with the earth and passes over it, it carries with it chaff and foam, so too does guidance and knowledge, when mixed with the hearts, stir up the desires and doubts therein to uproot and remove them. This is like medicine which, when drunk, stirs up the humors (akhlaṭ) of the body, causing the drinker to feel discomfort for a while."

The Definition of Fiṭrah. Is Fiṭrah Islam?

Fiṭrah ≠ fully-formed Islamic creed. Fiṭrah = an innate disposition toward tawḥīd, recognition of a Creator, and basic moral truths. The Holy Prophet ﷺ said: “Every child is born upon the fiṭrah, but it is his parents who make him a Jew, Christian, or Magian.” (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim) Imam Ghazali (rh) said: “Fitrah inclines toward affirmation, but without proof it may also incline toward falsehood. Thus proofs are necessary to separate truth from falsehood.” The fiṭrah gives them the innate pull toward tawḥīd. The revelation tells them how to worship properly, who Allah truly is, and what false beliefs to reject. Without revelation, fiṭrah could lead someone to vague deism, sun worship, or pantheism.
