Imam Ibn Al Jawzi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates the Hadith of the Middle Nation and it seems he is among those scholars who believe that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is a witness over our deeds, which are presented to him, and he supports this view, even though some new creed scholars deny it because of their misguidance and not because of ignorance.
Abu Salih, from Abu Sa'id who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: On the Day of Resurrection, a prophet will come with a man, and another prophet with two men, and more than that. Then their people will be called and asked: Did you receive this message? They will say: No. It will be said to them: Did your people receive it? They will say: Yes. It will be asked: Who bears witness for you? They will say: Muhammad and his followers. Muhammad and his followers will be called. It will be said to them: Did this message reach your people? They will say: Yes. It will be asked: How did you know? They will say: Our prophet came to us and told us that the messengers had delivered the message. That is what Allah, the Almighty, said: "And thus We have made you a middle nation."
Ibn Al Jawzi said: "He means: justly. That you may be witnesses over the people and the Messenger may be a witness over you (witness over our deeds)."
That you (the Muslim ummah) may be witnesses for Muhammad ﷺ against the nations — the Jews, the Christians, and the Magians — and that the Messenger ﷺ will be a witness against you regarding your deeds.” This was also said by Mujahid (رحمه الله).
